This state’s public electric utility serves more than 40,000 customers. It owns and operates a project that comprises 2 dams and has the capacity to produce more than 2,000 megawatts of clean, renewable and reliable electricity.


The utility was using Dynamics GP 2016 as their financials, which over the course of time, they determined was not the right fit for their operations, including complex purchasing, inventory, and financial processes. Over time, they had added 30 peripheral systems, including applications (Excel, Access, etc.), add-ons, and internally built Power Apps to fill the gaps to keep GP functioning; however, every process that should be simple had become very complex. As a result, the utility experienced inefficient operations and lack of regulation, resulting in millions of dollars in unplanned expenditures. HSO implemented Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance, which allowed the utility to map out and improve/streamline/automate processes, retire multiple systems, and improve the ability to manage spending—which translates to lowering rates or not having to raise them—and is staying in compliance with state and federal energy regulations.
