Challenge
This municipality had won the Bloomberg American Cities Climate Challenge, a $70M program that will accelerate efforts to tackle climate change and promote a sustainable future for residents. The goal was to build a portal where the public could watch the progress being made towards goals and metrics. The municipality struggled to find the capacity to develop the necessary tools to monitor progress of an initiative that they made substantial investments in and that is key to improving life for residents.
Solution
HSO designed a process to collect data from the departments responsible for indicators, e.g., water usage or vehicle miles traveled, and pushed it into Microsoft Azure data cloud storage. Microsoft Power BI is used to pull in that data and create visualizations and charts, which was in turn posted on a website hosted on Azure.
Results
In the end, the municipality acquired a key source of information to the public on the progress of their goals that will enable stakeholders to monitor their investments and commitment to improving environmental sustainability.
