Microsoft’s Nonprofit Tech Acceleration for Black and African American Communities Program:  Support Organizations Need to Drive Change

With Black History Month just around the corner, it’s a good opportunity to highlight what the business community is doing to support the fight against racial injustice and inequity.

In 2020, Microsoft renewed its commitment by utilizing their technology and partnerships to provide minority-focused nonprofits with critical services and support at a local level needed to drive change. One way they’re doing this is with the Nonprofit Tech Acceleration (NTA) for Black and African American Communities program.

The NTA program, which increases technology support for nonprofits that support people of color, offers a range of services, including everything from technology upgrades to full digital transformations, as well as consulting and implementation support.

The level of support offered to non-profits is based primarily on need. For example, a non-profit can receive free Azure subscriptions, a collaboration tool suite that helps them communicate on a single platform, or a partner who can help them with technology decisions and/or implementations.

HSO is proud to be one of the support partners in this program. We’re excited to be working with the following organizations on their technology goals:

BronxConnect

BronxConnect is a community and faith-based program that offers alternative-justice, cure violence, and re-entry programs to help communities build from within. They need a single, unified view of participants and interactions/engagements across different programs, mobile access capabilities, and automation of processes to speed up access to funds. HSO is implementing Microsoft’s Dynamics 365 Nonprofit Accelerator, laying the foundation for expanding the Dynamics 365 platform into the areas of activity, participant, donor, vendor, and funding organization management, as well as automation and mobile capabilities, to provide single source of truth for data.

Camelback Ventures

Camelback Ventures is an accelerator that identifies, develops, and promotes early stage, underrepresented entrepreneurs to increase individual and community education as well as generational wealth. The organization wanted to: Improve management and tracking of Fellows—entrepreneurs who are receiving the Camelback Fellowship; expand outreach and impact; and build infrastructure for scalability. With the Dynamics 365 Nonprofit Accelerator, Camelback will reach these goals through improved processes that free up resources, the ability to tap into data to measure success, and more.

National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE)

National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) is one of the largest student-governed organizations based in the United States, whose mission is to increase the number of culturally responsible black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community. HSO is helping the organization address productivity with a migration to Microsoft (Office) 365 and will be exploring other ways technology can support NSBE’s aggressive goal to graduate 10,000 black engineers by 2025.
